Target Information and Further Details
BCMA is a member of the tumour necrosis factor receptor superfamily, encoded by the TNFRSF17 gene. It plays a critical role in B-cell maturation, survival, and differentiation into plasma cells through binding to ligands such as BAFF and APRIL. BCMA is highly and selectively expressed on malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma, with minimal expression on normal tissues, which has led to its successful targeting by CAR-T cell therapies (e.g., idecabtagene vicleucel), bispecific antibodies, and ADCs (e.g., belantamab mafodotin). Its restricted expression pattern and immunogenic profile make it a leading antigen in the treatment of multiple myeloma.
